Unravelling European Regulations: Everything You Need to Know about DORA and NIS2

In the digital age, operational resilience and cybersecurity are crucial for any organisation. The European Union has implemented two important regulations: DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act) and NIS2 (Network and Information Systems Directive), which address these essential issues. We invite you to learn about all their implications and everything you need to ensure your company complies with these regulations.

In case you are not yet familiar with the implications of these regulations, here’s a reminder:

DORA, or the Digital Operational Resilience Act, was adopted in November 2022 and will come into force on 17 January 2025. It focuses on consolidating the operational resilience of financial entities against cyber-attacks. It sets strict requirements for technological risk management, incident reporting, resilience testing, and information-sharing agreements. It affects financial institutions and their critical ICT service providers.

NIS2, on the other hand, extends and strengthens security and incident reporting obligations for operators of essential services and digital service providers. It came into force on 27 December 2022, with an adoption deadline of 17 October 2024. This directive covers more sectors and requires stricter technical and organisational measures to protect against cyber-attacks.

Beyond the legal obligation, these regulations help protect assets, strengthen market position, and gain customer trust. Additionally, non-compliance can result in severe penalties, including financial fines and, in severe cases, the suspension of operations.
