A widespread power outage left millions of people in Spain, Portugal and parts of France without electricity and water yesterday, leading to chaotic scenes and extensive disruption. On Monday, trains were cancelled or evacuated in several regions, traffic lights failed, and delays mounted at airports. Shops, homes and restaurants were plunged into darkness. Affecting both daily life and critical services. 

The blackout, caused by a major fault in the national electrical grid, hit several urban centres – including Barcelona – particularly hard. 

Yet, despite being at the heart of one of the most affected areas, the Getronics Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Barcelona remained operational throughout the incident. 

Immediate response and rapid recovery 

Thanks to our robust business continuity and disaster recovery protocols, our well-trained team immediately initiated the incident response process. 

Our SOC team is trained to handle high-impact incidents, maintaining near-zero downtime across security monitoring, threat detection, and response. 

Even though the centre was directly impacted by the outage, on-site uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems ensured zero disruption to the support we provide. Getronics SOC is assisted by back-end servers located across Europe, avoiding disruptions at all points.
